I am so lucky to live a lifestyle where my focus isn’t on finding food, water or shelter. I already know I am safe, warm, fed, loved. So I have the great privilege of focusing on creating a life of meaning and purpose.
A luxury lifestyle to me isn’t to do with opulence or elitism. As I already have everything I need (a home, food, transport, education, healthcare, friends, family) then luxury for me is being able to also have some things that I love (ballet classes, a nice meal out, a holiday abroad, a new dress).
I think if we are able to appreciate the simple things then we will realise what wonderful lifestyles we can create for ourselves. It’s about priorities, time management, responsible spending, making the most of what we have. When we stop thinking about what we want and start thinking about the possibilities that we already have, I think we can become much more content. It’s something I’m still working on and I know it’s not always easy.
We all have a responsibility to look after each other and to look after the Earth. If we can make small changes in our lifestyles that will help others and the environment then I believe we should. There are always little things we can do to be more environmentally friendly, more ethical, more aware and more understanding.
A happy and fulfilled life is one filled with good people. As I get older I appreciate more and more the time I spend with friends and family. It can be easy to get swept up in work and just in life in general, all the things we need to do. A never ending list. But it’s important to make time for the people we love.
